mrIvan Collins IKOBA - Principal Attorney

mrIvan Collins IKOBA

Having completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre, Kampala in 2005, Ivan is at the helm of GraHaM Advocates, overseeing the firm’s day-to-day operations.

Ivan advises and assists Uganda’s largest, small, and medium-sized businesses and organizations, as well as commercial banks, international organizations, and for-profit and non-profit entities, on various forms of corporate and commercial transactions, as well as tax and dispute resolution issues.

He is trusted by local and foreign businesses to defend them against serious commercial and reputational risks. He accomplishes this by drawing on his extensive experience and wealth of knowledge in all areas of corporate and business law across a wide range of industry sectors, as well as exposure to colleagues at all levels of the Ugandan government from his previous work as legal counsel at the Electoral Commission and at a leading private law firm in Kampala.

Investors from Uganda’s top Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) source countries such as Kenya, South Africa, the UK, India, China, and the UAE applaud Ivan for his valiant efforts to intervene and get things moving again.

Under such applause, it’s no surprise that he has been involved in a variety of transactions and investment projects as part of his legal responsibilities, providing pragmatic, straightforward, and concise counsel in both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Ivan represents both private and public sector clients in Ugandan courts and ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings, drawing on his more than 16 years of legal practice experience and the collective experience of GraHaM Advocates to devise creative solutions to the most difficult problems or issues that clients face when doing business or investing in Uganda.

Ivan earned a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Dar es Salaam (2004), a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre-Kampala (2005), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Revenue and Tax Administration from the East African School of Taxation and Accounting (2010). He has been an Advocate of Uganda’s High Court, and he is a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.

He spends his free time working out, attending wellness retreats, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is also a great music fan!
